Install Steam On Chromebook

In this tutorial post, we will show you the step by step guide to install Steam on Chromebook. Before installing Steam ( High resource consuming gaming software) in Chromebook, let’s have a look into the minimum requirement that your Chromebook should have:

  • Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor
  • Iris Xe GPU
  • 8GB RAM (Minimum)

How To Install Steam On Chromebook

Let’s start our tutorial to install Steam on Chromebook.

1. How to Download Steam on Chromebook

It is quite easy process to download Steam on Chromebook. You can easily download the Steam from the Play Store. You can easily access the Play Store from the Menu. Once you open the Menu, you can search the Steam on the search bar. After selecting the Steam from the search bar, you need to click on the Install button that you will find on the top right side of the screen. Wait for the installation to complete.  After installation is completed, you need to sign up or enter your credentials to login. You can enjoy your game on Chromebook.

2. How to Use Steam on a Chromebook With Steam Link

The Steam Link app is another way to run Steam on Chromebook without downloading Steam.  This is not so popular process of using Steam on Chromebook. Go through the following step by step process to use Steam on Chromebook with steam link.

  1. Download the Steam Link app from the Play Store on your Chromebook.
  2. Click on Install.
  3. Click on the Get Started button.
  4. You need to wait for a while as Steam Link will scan for available computers on the network. Once it shows the available  device, click on the computer icon.
  5. Click on the Start Playing button. The Steam Link on your Chromebook will try and connect to the host device.
  6. Host PC on the network will start the Steam app for you.
  7. Go to the menu in the host steam app and click on setting option.
  8. In setting option, Click on Remote play.
  9. Click on the Pair Steam Link button. You will see a dialog box
  10. Enter the pin from the Steam Link app and click on Confirm in the dialog box.
  11. Wait for a while as the two apps need to connect.
  12. Finally, you can see the host’s screen on your Chromebook from where you can play the games.

Using the Keyboard Shortcut

This is the quickest and most convenient way to capture your entire screen.

  • Press and hold the “Ctrl” key. While holding “Ctrl”, press the “Show windows” key. You’ll see the screen dim for a moment, indicating the screenshot was captured.
  • The screenshot will be automatically saved to the “Downloads” folder on your Chromebook.

Using the Quick Settings Menu

This method allows you to capture the

  • Entire screen
  • A single window, or a specific area.

Click on the clock in the bottom right corner of your Chromebook shelf to open the Quick Settings menu. There you need  to click on the “Screen Capture” icon.
You’ll see three options:

  • “Capture entire screen”: This captures your entire Chromebook display.
  • “Capture window”: This captures the currently active window.
  • “Capture area”: This allows you to select a specific portion of your screen to capture.

Choose the desired capture option.

If you select “Capture area”, drag your mouse to select the specific area you want to capture. The screenshot will be automatically saved to the “Tote” on your Chromebook shelf and copied to your clipboard.

How To Setup Selenium With ChromeDriver On Ubuntu 22.04, 20.04 & 18.04

This tutorial will help you to install and set up Selenium with ChromeDriver on Ubuntu Ubuntu 22.04, 20.04 & 18.04. This is also applicable for the Linux Mint.

How To Setup Selenium With ChromeDriver On Ubuntu 22.04, 20.04 & 18.04

At first, You need to install required packages on your Ubuntu. Run the following command to install Xvfb (X virtual framebuffer) in Ubuntu.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y unzip xvfb libxi6 libgconf-2-4

Meanwhile, you also need to have Java installed in your Ubuntu.

sudo apt install default-jdk

Now, Run the following commands to install Google Chrome.

sudo curl -sS -o - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | apt-key add 
sudo bash -c "echo 'deb [arch=amd64] http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list"
sudo apt -y update  
sudo apt -y install google-chrome-stable

Now, It’s time to install ChromeDriver on your Ubuntu.

Run the following command to find out the Google chrome version installed on your system.

google-chrome --version

Output

Google Chrome 94.0.4606.61

Next, you need to download the matching version of chromedriver with your Google Chrome on your Ubuntu from the Chromedriver download page.

wget https://chromedriver.storage.googleapis.com/94.0.4606.61/chromedriver_linux64.zip 
unzip chromedriver_linux64.zip

Now, run the following commands to configure ChromeDriver on your Ubuntu.

sudo mv chromedriver /usr/bin/chromedriver  
sudo chown root:root /usr/bin/chromedriver  
sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/chromedriver

Download Selenium Server Jar Files

Download the Selenium standalone server jar file using the below commands.

wget https://selenium-release.storage.googleapis.com/3.141/selenium-server-standalone-3.141.59.jar  
mv selenium-server-standalone-3.141.59.jar selenium-server-standalone.jar

Also, download the testng-6.8.7.jar file to your system.

wget http://www.java2s.com/Code/JarDownload/testng/testng-6.8.7.jar.zip  unzip testng-6.8.7.jar.zip 

Now, You need to start Chrome via a standalone selenium server using the Xvfb utility that you have installed in first step.

xvfb-run java -Dwebdriver.chrome.driver=/usr/bin/chromedriver -jar selenium-server-standalone.jar

Run the following command if you want to Start Headless ChromeDriver.

chromedriver --url-base=/wd/hub
